At the prompting of a reader, I decided to order a tub of Truefitt & Hill 1805 Shaving Cream, which cost $30 for 5.8 ounces plus $6.95 shipping and handling. In an earlier post I commented on how great The Art of Shaving’s product was which costs $8 less and only $5 to ship but it is only 5.3 ounces.
Doing a little math, that means that the Truefitt & Hill is $6.37 per ounce including shipping where The Art of Shaving is $5.09 per ounce making the Truefitt & Hill 25% more expensive.
The Truefitt & Hill is a very very nice shaving cream.
However, having shaved with both, I feel that the Truefitt & Hill is better, but not that much better.
Granted it seems steeped in a bit more history and buying something from London certainly sounds more sophisticated and high brow but when my experiment is over, I think I’ll be sticking with The Art of Shaving.
After all, even when enjoying one of life’s simple pleasures, a modicum of frugality is still warranted.
Next I’ll be trying Crabtree & Evelyne, which sells a product called Sienna for $25 for 5.3 ounces and ships for $6.95.
I’ll let you know how that turns out.
